A faithful recreation of a model that was never mass-produced
with his 1946 ES350
Jazz guitarist Barney Kessel was known for his unique sound and the misterious
1946 Gibson ES350 he played. The guitar had many modifications and was never mass-produced.
It remained unclear if the guitar was a custom order or had been gradually changed over time:
When Barney first appeared with it, it had an ebony fretboard (vs. the original rosewood) an L5-scale (which is longer than a typical 350 scale), and a Charlie Christian pickup. Barney added chicken head knobs from a record player for better visibility of the setting, as he explains in a video.
This ATC 350 BK by Westville Guitars in Tokyo is a tribute to Barney Kessel and his guitar. It faithfully captures every detail of the unique original: It features a 17" figured hard maple plywood body, ebony fretboard with the legenday Charlie Christian single coil pickup and a BK replica ebony bridge assembly.
It delivers a warm and full tone with a balanced response and the flair of Barney Kessel's spirit.
